A good way to make Gil is buying items from other servers that are popular and sell well for cheap and selling them for more in your world. Good items to do this with are cosmetic weapons, minions and mounts. Before you visit another worlds server its good to find a item on the market board that you think will sell then visit several worlds and see if any have the item cheaper then buy the cheapest one and bring it back to your world and sell it for the going rate in your server. A way to make this easier is using a ff14 market board pricing website. There are a few of them but I use https://www.ffxivmb.com/ because its easy to use and shows item prices across servers.
